Rutba Episode 4 Review: 5 Powerful Moments That Tested Hadi

First it was flowers. Then it was thirty workers. Then it was a delivery of groceries. In Rutba episode 4, everybody wants to do Hadi a favor, and that is exactly the problem.

With every passing day, Hadi’s responsibilities grow, and so do the tests that come with his post. In this city, rishwat does not always arrive as an envelope. It arrives as flowers, as free help and as a perk of the job.

Some people bring gifts, some send workers, and some simply smile and wait. Here is our review of Rutba episode 4, with the five moments that stayed with us.

Rutba Episode 4 in One Paragraph

Hadi takes charge as the new ASP and refuses every gift that comes to his office, including the ones brought by the powerful Meer, who still manages to leave a book behind. At home, Mahnoor sends away a crowd of workers that Sheely has sent to renovate their house for free. In Rutba Episode 4, Hadi’s refusal to accept unofficial favours becomes a test of his principles and his commitment to justice

Hadi visits another police station, shames the staff for their fitness and finds an old woman whose complaint has been ignored for a month. At night, the couple finishes setting up their first home, until a delivery of free groceries arrives and Hadi orders everything to be returned. Meanwhile, Meer and Sheely turn out to be husband and wife, and their relationship is very different from what it looked like, as Meer slaps Sheely for meeting Hadi’s wife and introducing herself as Sheely.

1. Meer’s Rutba Meets Hadi’s Usool

Meer arrives expecting his influence to make an impression on ASP Hadi

Meer arrives with one goal: to leave a big impression. He comes with gifts, a stylish introduction and the confidence of a man who knows the whole city. His visiting card carries only a name, because, he says, anyone in the city can tell you who Meer is.

He even says nobody has ever made him wait, and Hadi made him wait seventeen minutes. Hadi’s reply is simple. Meer came without an appointment and expected to skip the line, so waiting was the only option.

Notice how straightforward Hadi stays. He does not shout, and he does not try to look like a hero. He simply says no. No gifts next time, not even flowers. When the SP’s office sends tea for Meer, Hadi sends the trolley to the SP’s room. After Meer leaves, Hadi also tells his staff that nobody enters his office without his permission, and he asks how armed guards got inside the SP’s office, only to learn that the SP himself allowed it.

In our offices, this is how things usually start. A mithai ka dabba, a bouquet, a small gesture. Nobody calls it bribery. Hadi does.

But Meer is clever. He takes all the gifts back to the car and leaves just one thing behind, the Diwan of Dagh. Anyone who rejects a book, he says, is an infidel. And Hadi, a man who appreciates poetry, cannot ignore it. He keeps it.

That was a smart move. Meer did not offer money or a car. He offered poetry, the one gift that is very hard to refuse.

2. Mahnoor’s Test: Sheely’s Ehsaan With Strings Attached

Mahnoor stands by her principles when Sheely sends workers to their home

Hadi is not the only one being tested. At home, Mahnoor opens the door and finds workers ready to start painting and repairs. They say Sheely sent them.

Mahnoor never asked for any of this. The workers say they cannot leave without their madam’s orders, so she calls Sheely herself. Sheely says it is no big deal, because they are her company’s workers and will finish in a day or two. Then she gives an interesting suggestion. If you don’t want to tell your husband, don’t.

Mahnoor’s answer is the best line of the scene. She does not hide anything from her husband, and if he forbids something, she does not do it. Please call your workers back, she says, and thank you for being so kind.

We all know this kind of ehsaan. It comes with a smile, and it always comes with a hidden bill. By refusing, Mahnoor shows that honesty is not only Hadi’s job. It is the couple’s decision.

3. Thana Visit: An Aunty Who Waited a Month for One FIR

At another police station, Hadi’s staff is ready for a nice visit. They tell him that law and order is under complete control and that not a single FIR has been filed in two weeks. Lunch is already ready.

Hadi does not smile. He looks at their bellies and tells them to start thinking about the fitness of their force.

Then an old woman arrives, and the staff tries to push her out. They say she comes every day to make trouble. Hadi calls her in, and she tells him her story. Her granddaughter was kidnapped, and for a whole month she has been begging the police to register an FIR. Nobody has even written down her complaint.

Anyone who has stood outside a thana knows this scene. The staff says the girl ran away. Hadi does not argue. He simply listens, and he takes the woman with him.

Notice what scares the station head the most. He does not ask how they could ignore her. He asks whether Hadi is trying to get him stripped of his rank. That one line explains a whole system. People are not afraid of failing the public. They are afraid of losing their position.

4. Rashan, Rishwat and the “Sab Chalta Hai” Mindset

Hadi refuses free groceries that are treated as a normal perk of the job

After a long day, Hadi and Mahnoor finish setting up their house. Mahnoor surprises him with something she got made while he was at work, and they take their first selfie in their first home, with their first cup of tea.

Then the rashan arrives. Chicken, mutton, fruit and kitchen supplies. The men say it goes to the SP’s house every day, and now it will come to Hadi’s house too. It has always come free.

This is the “sab chalta hai” mindset in one delivery. In our system, such perks are treated as part of the job. Nobody calls it rishwat. They call it “sahib ka rashan.”

Hadi is clear. From now on, nothing will enter his house unless he ordered it himself or has a record of it. Take it all back, he says, and he will not repeat himself.

The man at the door asks Mahnoor to talk some sense into her husband, because a household has major expenses. She answers calmly. Yes, a household has expenses, but they should not be paid for with bribes and dirty money.

As the men leave, one of them mutters that husband and wife are exactly the same, and that they will suffer the consequences themselves. It is a small line, but it sounds like a warning.

5. Meer and Sheely: A Marriage Behind the Stylish Image

Meer confronts Sheely in Rutba Episode 4
The confrontation reveals a darker side of Meer’s relationship with Sheely

During their night talk, Hadi and Mahnoor each share the story of a strange person they met. Hadi talks about Meer, and Mahnoor talks about Sheely. Then they compare the visiting cards. One is a white card with Meer in black, and the other is a black card with Sheely in white. They laugh and wonder if the two are husband and wife.

They are. And the drama shows us what that marriage really looks like. Sheely is known as Madam Shehnaz to the staff, but she introduced herself to Mahnoor as Sheely. When Meer finds out that she met Hadi’s wife and used that name, he slaps her.

Then he tells her that if she ever meets Hadi again without telling him, he will kill her and bury her in their bedroom. Sheely, he says, is only his. The scene ends with one line: “Meer’s Sheely.”

It is a complete change of mood. The man who talked about flowers and poetry now speaks like someone who owns his wife. After this scene, Sheely’s friendly visit and her offer of free workers look very different. Was she really helping Mahnoor, or was she following someone’s plan?

Love in the Middle of the Pressure

What keeps Rutba episode 4 from becoming too heavy is the warmth between Hadi and Mahnoor. He asks her for a towel from the bathroom, and she reminds him that he should take one before going in. They read the Diwan of Dagh together, and she agrees that nobody should refuse a book. He tells her to rest, and she tells him not to hurt himself while lifting things.

Mahnoor also talks to her mother and her sister in law Haleema on the phone. She says Hadi is always busy, and that he goes by the book. It is sweet to hear that sentence from the person who knows him best.

There is one thing we do not understand yet. Why does Hadi keep noticing Sheely at the gym? In one scene, he asks who the lady who just walked out is, and the staff tells him it is Madam Shehnaz, whose husband also works out there. His family even jokes that he has become obsessed with going to the gym.

Maybe he is just curious about this strange woman who keeps appearing around him. Maybe the writer is setting up something bigger. Either way, we hope the drama explains it soon.

Acting and Writing in Rutba Episode 4

The script gives Talha Chahour a clear job. Hadi has to say no again and again without sounding proud, and the episode keeps him calm, polite and firm. Hiba Qadir gets the lighter side of the couple, with her teasing and her quiet strength in the workers scene.

Zahid Ahmed’s Meer gets a stylish, poetic entry, and then a very scary one. Mehwish Hayat’s Sheely stays friendly on the surface, which makes the last scene even more surprising.

The performances in Rutba Episode 4 strengthen the story, especially as Hadi faces pressure from influential people while trying to do his job honestly.

The writing by Umera Ahmed is the real star. Each temptation is a little bigger than the last, and each one looks like kindness.

The Theme of Rutba Episode 4: Every Favor Has a Price

We all know how this works in real life. Someone sends sweets to an officer. Someone offers a free repair, a free ticket or a free introduction. Nobody asks for anything in return. At least, not today.

That is the main message of Rutba episode 4. A favor is never just a favor. It is a door, and the person who opens it expects to enter one day.

Hadi sees the doors clearly, and so does Mahnoor. The question is how long two honest people can keep saying no to a system that is built on yes.

What Comes Next

After Rutba episode 4, we have a few questions. Will the Diwan of Dagh become the first gap in Hadi’s wall? What will Meer do after being refused so politely? And what does Sheely really want from Mahnoor?

We also wonder about the old aunty’s granddaughter, and what Hadi will find when he looks into her case.
